Buhari, Ganduje charge new Emir of Bichi to work for Nigeria’s peace, security

President Muhammadu Buhari and Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano State on Saturday charged the Emir of Bichi, Alhaji Muhammadu Nasiru Ado Bayero, who was coronated in Bichi Stadium, Kano, on Saturday, to work for the peace and security of the country.

According to the President, the traditional institution could be used to tackle the nation’s challenges of security and ‘one Nigeria’ project.

“Your turbaning is a providential one at a time like this in the history of our country when the prevailing social and political conditions have created an opportunity for emerging leaders to prepare their qualities and work earnestly for continued peace and security of our country,” the President said.

Describing Nasiru as a blessing to the Bichi emirate, Buhari said he has no doubt that the reign of the monarch, who was presented with a staff of office by Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje on Saturday, will improve commerce and industry and bring bountiful gains and development in Bichi and Kano State.

President Buhari was represented at the coronation by his Chief-of-Staff, Prof. Ibrahim Agboola Gambari, who also headed the Federal Government delegation at the event.

The President noted that the evolution of traditional institutions in Kano was a good development to the state. “Bichi is an enabler of quality administration in traditional rulership,” Buhari said, recalling that two former powerful emirs of Kano had their roots from Bichi.

Buhari, whose son, Yusuf, wedded the emir’s daughter, Zahra, on Friday, prayed that God should guide his in-law to rule with the fear of God as his fore-fathers did.

“Your father -the late emir of Kano Alhaji Ado Bayero was a symbol of unity, not only within the kingdom but the entire north and the country. Follow and exhibit your father’s leadership qualities. I pray for your success and contribution to uplifting the well-being of the people of Bichi and Nigeria.

“I remember with nostalgia and fondness the passion and commitment with which he (late Bayero) contributed, as well as the distinguished character he exhibited on any course he believed in that almost cost him his life prematurely on January 13, 2013 because of his perseverant stance against Boko Haram terrorists.

“I am confident that you will exhibit such leadership qualities and lot more as you have contributed in the few months of your honouring,” Buhari said, assuring him of his support.
