Nigeria will continue to preserve relations with long-time allies, says Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has said Nigeria will continue to preserve the diplomatic relations it shares with its long-time allies.

The President said this while hosting outgoing Ambassadors of Spain, Marcelino Cabanas Ansorena and The State of Qatar counterpart, Abdulaziz Mubarak Al Muhanadi, at the State House in Abuja.

President Buhari’s interactions with the exiting ambassadors were contained in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina.

To Ansorena, President Buhari said Spain would ever remain relevant in the developed world, stressing that Nigeria was glad to have a cordial relationship with the European country in the areas of trade, technology, education, and other spheres of life.

“Generation after generation, we have been together, and we will continue to build on the relationship,” the President said.

Ambassador Ansorena said his four years in Nigeria were pleasurable, adding that relations between the countries “continue to be excellent”.

He promised to be a new Ambassador of Nigeria to Spain, pledging that his country would continue to invest more in agriculture, food processing, and the fight against human trafficking.

The outgoing ambassador lauded Nigeria’s democracy, saying it has consolidated “and will continue to grow”.

To Muhanadi, President Buhari said relations between the two countries had been strong and credible, particularly as oil producing nations.

He said the two countries were closely related, and that the ties would be maintained.
