APC inaugurates committees for July 31 ward congress

Ahead of its July 31 ward congress, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on Wednesday inaugurated a two-man congress committee for each of the 34 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Inaugurating the committees at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, the Chairman of Caretaker Extra-Ordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) and Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni urged the committees to encourage consensus arrangement, where possible.

The chairman was represented by the Secretary of the Caretaker Committee, Senator John James Akpanudoedehe.

He said the success of the exercise would depend on the committees.  While the July 31 for the commencement of the congress remains sacrosanct, the exercise, in Anambra and Zamfara states, has been suspended by the leadership of the party.

Buni said: “In continuation of the rebuilding and repositioning processes of our party, our ward congresses to produce the ward executive committees and the delegates at that level will take place this Saturday, July 31, 2021. You’ve been selected to superintendent over that exercise.

“There’s no doubt that within this room are the creme de la creme of our party, our first team for any competition.

“Therefore, I urge you to keep the interest of the party first and foremost within your hearts. The success of this exercise depends so much on you, the unity of our party also depends on the outcome and the outcome essentially depends on your handling of issues and the overall conduct of the exercise.”

Also, the Lagos State chapter of the party will, on Saturday, hold its ward and local government congresses to appoint party leaders at that level.

The State APC Chairman Tunde Balogun, who addressed reporters on Wednesday after a meeting of the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, said: “July 31 is the party’s ward congress that will lead to the formation of party officials at the ward and local government levels. There will be a stakeholders’ meeting tomorrow (today) at the local government level where we will decide on what to do.

“The ward congress will be on consensus arrangement, which has been adopted by the party. This consensus arrangement is constitutional as it is provided for in our party’s constitution.”
